CARING FOR YOUR FLAGS     Connacht flag

  • Take the flag down if there is risk of a storm, all of the flapping around will shorten its lifespan
  • If the flag gets taken down in wet conditions, spread the flag out to dry thoroughly before rolling up for storage.
  • If not required for immediate use, don't fold the flag - this will causes creases. Try to roll the flag up and stow in a dry and ventilated area.
  • The dyes used in flags are usually colourfast and resistant to the sun and rain but salt and other severe conditions will have an adverse effect on colour.
  • If the flag needs to be washed, go gently and hand wash.  Try to avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach.
  • Flying flags on unsuitable days will result in the flag wearing out faster.  With reasonable care and limited use a flag may last indefinitely.
  • Strong winds lifting a wet flag cause a severe strain on the material and this should be avoided if the life of the flag is to be prolonged.
  • Slack halyards will also cause unnecessary deterioration and the flag needs to be hauled taut so that the bolt rope is taking the strain.
  • Use a pole that is smooth with no items to catch on the flag.
  • Don’t use the flags near power lines or other areas where they would pose a danger to yourself or others.
